Aspire (electric) Road Test

For the first time Travel News Update has a road test of a fully electric car, the Kia e-Niro.

It is truly outstanding and comes with the marvellous Kia seven-year warranty.

The full road test from Business Travel News is reproduced here, but one word of minor warning.  If you decide to buy one, and is true for most cars in this modern age, get the salesman to really brief you properly at the handover.  Modern car controls are complicated.  Don’t just put the key into the ignition (and you don’t with most cars these days – although finding the start switch can be a problem).  A proper briefing is a necessity.  And make some notes. Forget petrol and diesel cars.

BA Economy

Aspire travellers should be aware that the only cabin service now available in what BA terms Euro Traveller is a complimentary bottle of water and snack.  Called the Speedbird Café, a gourmet range by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, it is available for pre-purchase via an app.

UK cruising update

During September the UK ports will be busy with short cruises, for the most part three- and four-day trips, an ideal way to try this form of holiday for the first time, or return if cruising is in your blood.  There are still some bargains to be had and all the ships operate with reduced numbers.

Travel News Update editor Malcolm Ginsberg has sampled Fred Olsen and the brand-new Virgin Voyages.  Click for reports.  Visit your local travel agent, contact a specialist, or view the cruise lines' listing in Business Travel News

Read the newspapers

During these difficult times Aspire has had to make some changes to the way it provides services at airport lounges to make them Covid-19 safe to operate.  Newspapers and magazines cannot be easily sanitised and cleaned in-between use. All guests can log into the free of charge wi-fi in the Aspire Lounges and download the PressReader app.  It also allows you to store as many titles as you want, for reading anywhere later.

By clicking on the PressReader app lounge guests have access to a very large selection of newspapers and magazines from over 120 countries in over 60 languages. That’s 7,000 trusted publications. Readers can instantly translate articles in up to 18 languages.
