Coming to London (with the children) or living in London?  The London Transport Museum is a must.  Kids go free.  Travel News Update Editor Malcolm Ginsberg was a recent visitor.  Here he reports for Business Travel News.

LAX here we come

California finally opened up on 15 June. Locals can actually set foot inside stores and restaurants without having to wear a mask.  This is all good news for Brits thinking of taking a holiday via Los Angeles in August onwards.

At the time of writing more than 70% of Californian adults have had at least one vaccine jab.  The State’s seven-day average number of daily Coronavirus cases is down 98% from its peak in January.  As a traveller you have plenty of choice between American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

Cruise ships sailings

The cruise ships are sailing again, but in what are effectively only British waters.  Called “seacations” these are from three days with some including port visits.  Maiden voyages include Fed Olsen Borealis and Bolette, P&O Iona and Saga Spirit of Adventure. Up to 14 cruise lines are offering ex-UK home-based trips until the end of the summer season in September.  Hopefully at that time overseas sea and river cruises will be available.  What’s available is too complicated to list here but do visit the Business Travel News website for a full listing.  Or your local travel agent.  They really need the business!

ASPIRE adds No1 Lounges

SwissportALD, the joint venture set-up between Swissport (owners of Aspire Lounges, and the world’s largest provider of ground handling) and Airport Dimensions, have acquired the distinctly upmarket No1 Lounges UK portfolio.

The joint venture partners will operate nine lounges across the various terminals at London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Birmingham airports.

Whilst Priority Pass members have always had access to the Aspire Lounges, this has now been extended to No1 Lounges in the UK.

SwissportALD emphasises that the No1 brands, which also includes the exclusive, luxury, Clubrooms, will retain their own strong and unique identities.

At the present time Club Aspire Lounges at Gatwick North Terminal and Heathrow T5 are open, as is the Aspire Lounge at Belfast City Airport. Further UK lounges are expected to be operational soon.

Covid An Update

It is proving to be virtually impossible to keep up to date with the traffic light system as it goes from green, to amber and then red, quicker than any junction on the highway. And the media comes up with speculation, guesses and wishful thinking!  All very confusing.  Go to the official government website, which can be baffling with a need to dig deep.
